By putting this chip in a niche product like the Air, this may be Apple’s way of ‘beta-testing’ multitouch additions to the Mac OS. What is not clear is whether or not multitouch will live as an add-on to the experience, much like the Newton-derived Inkwell technology, or if there are any plans to place it in a more prominent role.
